The Lands of the Scythians
Ancient Treasures from the Hermitage
The Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam
1993
This exhibition focuses on the horse as 'Leitmotif' and on the amazing tomb culture of these ancient horsemen. The visitor is guided along preserved horses with suspended riders on top and past an ancient burial mound covered with grass. One enters the underworld of the Scythians and finds oneself in a labyrinth.

The forward-slanting showcases contain precious funeral gifts made of gold. An exhibition full of magic and mystery, evoked by using dark green and dark blue as base colours and sparkling lights that suggest a clear starry sky.
