Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of Peter de Great
St Petersburg, Russia |
| 2003 |
In the 'Cabinet of Naturalia' one can find the first natural science collections of the Kunstkamera. These were purchased by Peter the Great from Ruysch and Seba at the end of the 17th century, and include plants, animals, shells, human body parts, and foetuses that have been preserved in spirits. Peter the Great wanted to exhibit them as a visual encyclopaedia and not as a collection of curiosities.
The design of the exhibition has been realised in collaboration with our Russian colleagues. The old cabinets are refurbished in the style of the 18th century. A new fibre optic lighting has been installed and the general lighting has been adjusted. Besides the spatial layout, a graphic concept and multimedia presentation have also been developed for the museum. |
